چکیده

Since its founding, NASA has been dedicated to the advancement of aeronautics and space science. The NASA Scientific and Technical Information (STI) Program Office plays a key part in helping NASA maintain this important role. The NASA STI Program Office is operated by Langley Research Center, the lead center for NASA's scientific and technical information. The NASA STI Program Office provides access to the NASA STI Database, the largest collection of aeronautical and space science STI in the world. The Program Office is also NASA's institutional mechanism for disseminating the results of its research and development activities. These results are published by NASA in the NASA STI Report Series, which includes the following report types: • TECHNICAL PUBLICATION. Reports of completed research or a major significant phase of research that present the results of NASA programs and include extensive data or theoretical analysis. Includes compilations of significant scientific and technical data and information deemed to be of continuing reference value. NASA counterpart of peer-reviewed formal professional papers, but having less stringent limitations on manuscript length and extent of graphic presentations. Scientific and technical findings that are preliminary or of specialized interest, e.g., quick release reports, working papers, and bibliographies that contain minimal annotation. Does not contain extensive analysis.

Virtual Acoustics and 3-d Sound in Multimedia Signal Processing

In this work, aspects in real-time modeling and synthesis of three-dimensional sound in the context of digital audio, multimedia, and virtual environments are studied. The concept of virtual acoustics is discussed, which includes models for sound sources, room acoustics, and spatial hearing. Real-time virtual acoustics modeling is carried out using a real-time parametric room impulse response r...

Agent and Virtual Reality-based Course Delivery System

This paper repots on the development of the Agent and Virtual Reality-based (AVR) a nontraditional course delivery system. The system allows creation of lectures in a virtual world that enhances the learning experience of students by creating interactive lectures and class discussions in 3-D with multimedia contents delivered through a low-bandwidth Internet connection. We have been evaluating ...

Tools and widgets for spatial sound authoring

Broader use of virtual reality environments and sophisticated animations spawn a need for spatial sound. Until now, spatial sound design has been based very much on experience and trial and error. Most effects are handcrafted, because good design tools for spatial sound do not exist. This paper discusses spatial sound authoring and its applications, including shared virtual reality environments...

Although most computational scientists routinely use visual imaging techniques to explore and analyze large data sets, they tend to be much less familiar with the use of sound. Yet sound signals carry significant amounts of information and can be used advantageously to increase the human/ computer interface’s bandwidth. The project described in this article focuses on scientific sonification—th...

Structured Audio: Creation, Transmission, and Rendering of Parametric Sound Representations

Structured audio representations are semantic and symbolic descriptions that are useful for ultralow-bit-rate transmission, flexible synthesis, and perceptually based manipulation and retrieval of sound. We present an overview of techniques for transmitting and synthesizing sound represented in structured format, and for creating structured representations from audio waveforms. We discuss appli...
